Here is some information about reading over the summer that was shared with us by our principal, Mrs. Thompson:
Dear Parents,
The purpose of a summer reading program is
to encourage students to become lifelong readers. Reading over the summer helps prevent the
“summer slide” that many students experience.
Students who read over the summer gain
reading skills which prepare them for the next grade, while students who do not
read during the summer, tend to lose some of the skills they had gained during
the year.
We encourage you to visit any of the
Vaughan Public Libraries over the summer months. As well, we have some digital resources that
encourage literacy growth.
